Ferdinand, Indiana Ferdinand, Indiana Ferdinand is a town in Ferdinand Township, Dubois County, in the U.S.

State of Indiana. The populace was 2,157 at the 2010 census.

Ferdinand was established in 1840 by Joseph Kundek, and was titled after the Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. The town was settled by mostly German-speaking citizens from central Europe.

In 1867, the Monastery of Immaculate Conception was established in Ferdinand.

Ferdinand was incorporated as a town in 1905. Just before to World War II the Civilian Conservation Corps created the Ferdinand State Forest.

According to the 2010 census, Ferdinand has a total region of 2.31 square miles (5.98 km2), of which 2.27 square miles (5.88 km2) (or 98.27%) is territory and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (or 1.73%) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,157 citizens , 823 homeholds, and 566 families residing in the town.
